Continuous discharge monitoring of the Mirim-São Gonçalo system by the index velocity rating curve method

Abstract The São Gonçalo Channel, located in the south of Brazil, is responsible for connecting Mirim Lagoon to Patos Lagoon, constituting largest coastal lagoon system Latin America. assessment its hydraulic variables necessary given importance this channel region. Thus, study aimed evaluate performance index velocity rating curve (IVRC) method, from measurements provided by horizontal static-type acoustic Doppler profilers (H-ADCPs). For two sections analyzed (GS1 and GS2), IVRC models were developed considering integrated cell (IVC) method; multi-cell (MCV) joint use IVC MCV; a stage-mean curve. results point an r2 0.986 (IVC), 0.998 (IVC + MCV), 0.534 (stage-mean velocity) at GS1, 0.995 0.815 GS2. In both GS1 GS2, showed significant gains – different flow conditions on continuous estimations velocities discharges when MCV method. model that presented best fit allowed development time-series studied sites with high reliability.
